Telescopic Handlers

Recent years have seen a dramatic increase in the number of telescopic handlers populating building sites, due both to there versatility as well as manoeuvrability over rough terrain.
Requirements
The requirements are largely similar both North and South of the boarder, with both jurisdictions classifying telescopic handlers as lifting equipment and therefore must receive a statutory examination annually (14 monthly in ROI). If however the telescopic handler is used for lifting people, the inspection periodicity should drop to 6 monthly.
(Please ring a staff member to discuss recent changes regarding basket inspections)
Examination
The examination, which would normally be undertaken on site, would consist of a full function test of the machine, including the following:
- checking the control function,
- the accurate operation of the rated capacity indicator (See fig 1 below)
- Condition of structure
- Road going worthiness (If road going)
- Operation of interlocks (if fitted)
- Condition of steering linkage etc.
The list above is in exhaustive illustrating only some of the items examined to give the reader a better understanding of what is involved.
